I enjoyed watching this video very much and loved how involved the teacher was with her students. Hats off to Ms. Robinson!
This video I felt was not only creative but an awesome way to incooperate theatre into various subjects, not just math. Students would be more engaged in learning and pay more attention in classrooms with such creative ways to involve students.

Books and Library in the Digital Age by Robert Darton & David Thornburn
This podcast is a lecture done by Robert Darton, a historian, who believe firmly in preserving e-mails, archives and other documents. Darton starts off with the history or the study of books and his past experience as a librarian, journalist and college professor. His archival work and research as a historian contribute to the history of books. He then goes on to mention how the physical aspects of books was studied at the end of the 19th century and during the 1800’s France was surrounded by publishers and papers which survived and that the use of ephemera as a primary resource for research.
He mentions the relationship of emerging technology and culture of books. The effects of the digital age on books and the role of the library in the digital age. For example, libraries whether it be research or public libraries must exist to continue to provide access to computers, the web and data sets for small businesses. Although there is instability of platform, he expresses passion for how the web can assist in preserving digital data. There are also, inconsistency and contradictions in the newspaper yesterday and today. Even, Shakespeare’s work has mistakes, or can’t be understood or read well therefore, it’s “faulty” and “not trustworthy”.
Darton then goes on with the impact and instability whether it be informational, digital or textual, of technology on libraries. For instance, there is difficulty preserving information that’s constantly being moved and things can be done digitally that can’t be done with books. Darton believes digital data in e-mails is very important. Therefore, being an advocate of digitalized books he expresses great concerns for inaccuracy or change of documents of any sort may lead to a complete disappearance of documents. He believes blogs and internet information must be read skeptically and we can’t be sure if the information is accurate. Same applies to the digital universe, it is unreliable. But books are more “playful” and “clever” medium and libraries has leverage and central as what emerge in the digital age. He show’s recognition for digital books but mentions, “one medium of communication doesn’t replace another but they co-exist“. He actually expresses more assurance in the digitalization of documents but not sure if the way books are written has change with word processing and if digital informations is secure.
I found this lecture to be very informative. I'm more aware how technology and the digitilization of books has changed the way information is disseminated and the impact that the digital world has on books and libraries. I disagree with Darton, as far as google not be around in about twenty years. I feel very confident google will be around for a very long time. Perhaps it will be more efficient if and when another company decides to buy it over.
Curriculums would have to adjust to the evolution of books. Schools would have to give students the option to utilize computers in classrooms as an alternative for textbooks which would be cheaper and more convenient. Teachers and librarians would also have to possess the skillsets and knowledge to assist students and the public. Libraries play an important role in preserving the past; transforming its role and the way it makes information available would be the perfect solution for it's survival in the digital world.
